He has consulted on robotics, explosion-proof electrical products, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), and financial services products. TJ and Wendy are retired professional ballroom dance competitors, swing dance competitors, national judges, instructors, and former event owners.

Dr. Wendy is a former independent business sales retail consultant specializing in product marketing, retail merchandising arrangements, product line advertising/promotions, commercial/home property preservation, and insurance inspection services. She has been a female business entrepreneur since 2007.

Wendy was the creative director and organizer of the Alabama Girls Wrestling Alliance. She was responsible for helping promote the sanctioning of women’s high school wrestling in Alabama. TJ and Wendy were emcees and directors of the first Alabama Girls State Wrestling Tournament held at Hoover High School in 2020. They also volunteered for 6 years as high school wrestling coaches, producing multiple boys’ and girls’ wrestling tournaments, events, and championship wrestlers. TJ grew up wrestling for Alabama High School Wrestling Hall of Fame Coach Duke Chimento at Hoover High School in the 1990s. He was also coached at Hoover by former Minnesota collegiate wrestler Scott Rohrer.

TJ was a gritty, two-time state qualifier at 112 and 119 lbs and part of a state runner-up team in 1993. He led his team in escapes and reversals his senior year and earned the annual “Harry Houdini” award from his coaches. During graduate school, he returned to the mats as a volunteer assistant coach at Tuscaloosa County High School under legendary West Alabama Coach Jamie Griffin. When TJ and Wendy met in 2001, Wendy began her career on the side of the mat, volunteering alongside TJ with scoring and video for Tuscaloosa County High. They continued volunteering with youth programs, and Wendy led stretching and tumbling exercises for Hoover Youth Wrestling at the request of Hall of Fame Alabama Coach Steve Gaydosh.

From 2018 to 2024, they reformed the John Carroll Catholic Wrestling Team after the program had been dormant for over 15 years. They produced a web reality show based on their experiences coaching their first season.

They became active advocates for girls’ wrestling when they had wrestling cheerleaders who wanted to cross over to the mats. Wrestling for Hope is inspired by true events experienced during their time on the mats.

Their son, Jay, was a three-time state qualifier and led the 5A division in pins his senior year. He won and placed in multiple Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco tournaments across the Southeast.
